One harrier (the hare) lays a trail of flour over a course (s)he chooses. The other harriers (the hounds) try to follow that trail to the end where they enjoy munchies and beer (or soft drinks). The typical hash is 8 - 10km over hill and dale, through suburbs, woods, malls, et al. The hash isn't a race, there are no prizes to the swift. Following the trail is the challenge, camaraderie and beverages are the rewards.

Hashing is:

  • A non competitive run set in and around Suzhou

  • A great way to meet people from diverse backgrounds in a very informal setting. The Run gets those endorphins flowing and the beer fine tunes the mood.

Hashing is not:

  • only for elite runners. joggers and walkers are very welcome.

  • a drunken brawl. We like to run and drink - sometimes at the same time. We don't want people to come who just want to get trashed. Drinking is part of Hash heritage and part of the fun. Some of our most beloved members don't drink at all.

  • anything connected with the intake of drugs

  • politically correct. Part of the fun is letting your hair down. Risque talking is encouraged and hashers are given silly nicknames to foster the atmosphere. If you don't have a sense of humour and a sense of the ironic, then hashing is probably not for you.

You see some great countryside, get fit, have fun and meet great people - so what's stopping you? Come and join us! Simply turn up about 15 minutes before the allotted time in the right place, with a bit of money for food and drink afterwards.

Chalk and Flour Markings

If you've seen small piles of flour and chalk markings in your area, it may have been a Hash group like us.

We've opted for harmless chalk and flour to sparingly mark our route as they are biodegradable and easily wash away.

We do try and inform people we meet as we're setting our runs (all on public footpaths and roads) what we're doing and what the materials are but, if we missed you, at least you now know what the marks are.
